About the event

No, not a demonstration of Chinese nouvelle cuisine! Rather, through the example of writing the familiar video game Snake from scratch - Richard Pawson will work through the same problem in each of the programming paradigms taught at A-level: procedural, object-oriented, and functional (currently, only in the AQA syllabus). By engaging with this session you will gain a far deeper understanding of all three of these paradigms: not just how they differ, but why. Richard will use the new Elan language, for which he is the principal architect, for all three - but the principles he will explore can be applied in most modern languages.   (You are welcome just to listen, watch, and ask questions, but if you have a large screen or a separate laptop you can work through examples in parallel with Richard - no prior install needed.
