2 Day Training - Introduction to Networking & Hardware / Introduction to Programming (March 1st & 5th)

Build your confidence in teaching Computing at KS3 with this two-day professional development event, designed especially for teachers without a specialist background in the subject.

Through practical training, you’ll develop your subject knowledge in Hardware & Networking and Programming with Python, exploring key concepts, real-world examples and effective approaches to teaching them in the classroom. Both days focus on not only understanding the content, but also how to teach it effectively, address common student misconceptions and make Computing accessible and engaging for students.

Day 1: Monday 1st March

• Focus: Introduction to Programming with Python

• What you’ll learn: Explore the fundamentals of programming with Python, including input and output, variables, calculations, data types, selection, lists, for loops, while loops and file handling. Through practical examples, including a chatbot and a carbon footprint calculator, we’ll consider how to teach these concepts, address common student misconceptions and explain why they are important.
