In collaboration with Digit<all> and supported by the Meet and Code grant, the Space To Learn Woodland Coding for Autistic Children event unfolded on the 18th of November 2023 in the serene surroundings of Mourne Park, Kilkeel.

Welcoming young individuals and their caregivers, the event marked the inaugural ASC Space To Learn gathering, held amidst the tranquility of a woodland setting.

The day commenced with an induction where participants enjoyed the outdoor projector, comfortable seating area, and refreshments, all while receiving insightful information about the woodland environment. A briefing on physical computing and the mission for the day set the tone for the unique learning experience.

With the guidance of their caregivers, each child embarked on a journey to explore the sensory delights of the woods, encouraged to focus on what they could see, hear, and feel. Leveraging micro:bits, the participants then programmed these devices to express the emotions they were feeling at that moment.

The excitement continued as the children traversed the woods once more, using their micro:bits to transmit signals to others, indicating the positivity of their emotions along the way.

The day was a resounding success, filled with joy, enthusiasm, and a myriad of emotions—all made possible through the Meet and Code grant generously distributed by Digit<all>. This event not only provided a unique learning experience for the children but also underscored the positive impact that technology, when harnessed creatively, can have on their lives. The ongoing commitment of Digit<all> to empowering diverse communities was demonstrated throughout this event.
